Each spring, a maximum of 55 Berlin galleries open exhibitions by emerging and established artists during Gallery Weekend Berlin, welcoming numerous visitors from around the world to the city. Founded in 2005 by a cooperative of Berlin galleries, it has established itself as a highlight of the international art calendar. Gallery Weekend celebrates galleries and artists within this unique format that provides high-calibre exhibitions and an unparalleled experience of Berlin and its gallery spaces.
Gallery Weekend Berlin is a private initiative of Berlin galleries and is organized and implemented by abc gwb UG (limited liability). The members of the board (currently: Jörn Bötnagel, Philomene Magers, Jochen Meyer, Bärbel Trautwein, and Nadine Zeidler) run Gallery Weekend along with the management.
Participation is only possible upon invitation by Gallery Weekend Berlin. Requirements for participation include, among others, a permanent gallery location in Berlin, the ongoing representation of artists, and a regular public exhibition program in the gallery’s own premises. The gallery must operate exclusively as a program gallery and may not act officially as an art consultancy.
CODE OF CONDUCT
The Gallery Weekend Berlin provides a platform for discourse and encounters among international art enthusiasts with diverse backgrounds, experiences, cultures, and identities. Plurality, tolerance, diversity, and mutual respect are the foundation of a democratic society and also the basis of the Gallery Weekend Berlin’s work. Therefore, discrimination or any actions based on racist and antisemitic attributions, or targeting ethnic origin, nationality, sexual and gender identity, religion, physical or mental impairment, chronic illness, age, language, and social status will not be accepted.
