A few years ago, Uwe Wittwer explained that in his work „it always comes down to light and shadow“ – metaphorically and literally. This couldn’t be more true for his current show with Galerie Judin, in which he plays with the refraction of light through lucid, delicate paintings on glass and the dramatic effect of a 360° charcoal wall drawing sucking up all the light. But the quote also stands for the motivic transformation of the forest as an idyllic place to the scene of battle and devastation.
